Smart, simple, MOOD.

MOOD is an easy to use CO2 monitoring device that lets you know right away if the ventilation in your area is sufficient.

MOOD device

Environmental conditions have a major impact on our well-being, comfort, and productivity. The MOOD device lets you know right away if the ventilation in your area is sufficient.

MOOD device is a smart, simple, configurable, CO2 sensor driven by a 18650 rechargeable battery. No wires! No strings attached! You can take it almost everywhere.

Instructions for building your own Mood device will be available soon on this page.

Carbon dioxide is a key indicator of indoor air quality. Thanks to new energy standards and better insulation, houses have become increasingly energy efficient, but the air quality can deteriorate rapidly. Ventilation at regular intervals is needed to maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor environment, and to improve the well-being and productivity of the inhabitants.

MOOD device uses the NDIR (Nondispersive infrared) sensor technology from one of the marketing leading companies SENSIRION operating in Switzerland.

MOOD devices can be configured via Bluetooth low energy. Furthermore a GATT service publishes all measured values on a regular basis.

In addition, all measured values are part of BLE advertising data, so there is no need to establish a connection, in order to read those values.

If you want to configure your MOOD devices there is an iOS app MOOD Central available in the App Store.

The following clip shows most of the functionalities of MOOD Central:

The integrated 2.9 inch E-paper display shows all measurements at an interval of one minute. The outstanding contrast of E-paper displays allows reading even in sunlight. Also the power consumption is minimized.

MOOD devices can be powered by an 18650 rechargeable battery for weeks. You can also use a standard USB power supply.

With the integrated battery charger you can charge the battery without removing it.

If you want to get notified, when the current CO2 concentration is exceeding a configurable threshold, the built-in buzzer can alert you.

With the help of the built-in real time clock, MOOD devices can be configured to be active or not depending on the day of the week and the time. Even holidays are taken into account.

How to build a MOOD device

Everything you need to know to build a MOOD device will be published here shortly.

Detailed instructions with the component parts list, circuit diagram, Gerber files for the circuit board and the STL file for 3D-printing the case as well as the firmware for the microcontroller.

iOS App MOOD Central

The iOS app MOOD Central can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store.

MOOD Messenger

MOOD Messenger is an ESP32 based device that works independently of MOOD devices. MOOD Messenger can be positioned anywhere nearby your MOOD devices and regularly scans its environment to read measurements from MOOD devices and send them to a configurable backend via MQTT. MOOD Messenger does not even have to connect to the MOOD devices to read the measured values. Everything can be configured via a simple web interface.

The work for MOOD Messenger is still in progress.
